Meet Elizabeth “Andie” Shin, DDS

Elizabeth Shin, DDS
Dr. Shin is the founder and president of BCC Pediatric Dentistry. She is a Board-Certified Pediatric Dentist with more than 20 years of practice experience. Among other awards and recognitions, Dr. Shin has been selected by her peers as a Washingtonian Top Pediatric Dentist and a Bethesda Magazine Top Pediatric Dentist.
Dr. Shin’s experience spans a diverse range of locations, settings, and organizations. She was Associate Professor of Pediatric Dentistry for the Advanced Post-Graduate Pediatric Dentistry Residency at the University of Southern California (USC). Dr. Shin practiced pediatric dentistry at a Native American Reservation in Montana. After 911, she joined the Army and served as an active-duty military officer and pediatric dentist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington DC. Dr. Shin was also the first Korean-American female to hold the position as the division head of the Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic Dental Clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. These and other positions throughout the years have provided Dr. Shin with invaluable pediatric dentistry experience and unique expertise.
Other fun facts about Dr. Shin:
- She was born in Busan, Korea, and moved to Brazil when she was two years old.
- She left Brazil to come to the U.S. and go to the University of Southern California Dental School, where she graduated as her class Salutatorian.
- She attended USC Advanced Pediatric Dental Program and did her residency at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. She received the best academic and clinical pediatric dental student award at the completion of her program.
- She was also chosen and nominated as the Chief Pediatric Dental Residency throughout her residency.
- The language that she speaks best is Portuguese! Everyone and everything in her dreams (even her dog Charlie) speaks Portuguese!
- Her Korean is just good enough to watch Korean TV dramas with some help from the subtitles. Don’t worry she speaks English too!
- Her favorite color is pink (have you seen our website!).
- She loves to play Candy Crush on her phone.
- She loves shoes (don’t tell her husband).
- She loves reading, scuba diving, water skiing, and sometimes, just doing nothing.
Most of all she loves children, likes to make them laugh, and is constantly trying to learn more about them and their accomplishments. That includes her patients and her son, daughter, grandkids, and your child too!
Meet Monica Tiu, DDS

Monica Tiu, DDS
Dr. Monica Tiu loves children. She enjoys friendly interaction with her young patients and always treats them with care and respect. Dr. Tiu takes pride in providing sedation services that make dental visits as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible.
As a Maryland native, Dr. Tiu earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park and her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. To further enhance her skills, Dr. Tiu completed a General Practice residency at the Brooklyn VA Medical Center. She also received 2 additional years of extensive training in IV sedation and general anesthesia during her Dental Anesthesiology residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Tiu practiced in New York City for 10 years before returning to the Washington, D.C. area.
Dr. Tiu is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Currently, she serves as an Assistant Clinical Instructor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and has also taught at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Dr. Tiu is a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Mommy Dentists in Business, and takes continuing education classes regularly to keep up to date with the latest techniques.
Dr. Tiu has a loving husband and two very energetic daughters. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, biking, and spending time with her family.
